Dr. Kyumin Whang

Dr. Kyumin Whang is a Biomedical Engineer, who received his B.S. from Boston University, M.S.E. from Johns Hopkins University and Ph.D. from Northwestern University. Over the last 25 years, he has taught dental biomaterials to dental school students as well as prosthodontics residents. Dr. Whang is currently a professor and researcher in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at University of Texas Health San Antonio. He has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense and industry to conduct research in the areas of tissue engineering, biodegradable scaffolds for bone regeneration, development of antimicrobial biomaterials by generating silver nanoparticles via the curing of biomaterials, development of a novel low-color, color-stable dual-cure initiator system, development of a novel oxirane-acrylate monomer system to reduce resin degradation and enhance composite longevity, the development of boron nitride nano sheets to enhance composite properties and longevity, and the development of antimicrobial dental composites and denture materials using K18-MMA and K18-Filler.
